Work-Life Balance, Job Commitment and Productivity of Female Lectures in Universities in Lagos State

Posted on April 23, 2024April 23, 2024 By 4myresearch

This study delves into a significant gap in research by examining the impact of work-life balance on the job commitment and productivity of female lecturers within Nigerian universities, an area largely overlooked in existing scholarship, which has predominantly focused on bank employees. Drawing on conflict theory as a guiding framework, the research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing a descriptive method to explore correlations between variables. Targeting female lecturers, particularly those at the University of Lagos, Akoka, and Lagos State University, Ojo, a purposive sampling technique selects 150 participants. Data collection occurs through a questionnaire, with descriptive statistics revealing demographic profiles and Pearson’s correlation coefficient employed to test hypotheses. Findings highlight that inadequate work-life balance detrimentally affects the job commitment and productivity of female lecturers. The study underscores the need for university management to implement family-friendly policies, such as flexible working hours and childcare facilities, to harmonize the demands of work and family responsibilities. The study’s objectives include examining the relationships between work-life balance and occupational stress, family stress, job commitment, and productivity among female lecturers, contributing valuable insights to both academia and university policy-making.
