Why is Hospitality Important?
- It Makes Others Feel Welcome:
When we show hospitality, we make people feel loved and special. It helps them feel that they belong and are accepted. For example, when a new student joins the class, showing hospitality by greeting them and helping them feel part of the group is a kind thing to do. - It Reflects God’s Love:
The Bible teaches us that we should love others as we love ourselves. Hospitality is a way to show this love. By being kind and welcoming, we reflect the love that God has for us. In Romans 12:13, it says, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” This means that by being hospitable, we are following God’s command to love and help others. - It Creates Friendships:
Being hospitable helps us make new friends. When we are kind and welcoming to others, they are more likely to want to be our friends. For example, inviting someone to play with you at school or sharing your toys with a new friend is a way to show hospitality and build a friendship. - It Teaches Good Manners:
Showing hospitality is also about having good manners. Saying “please,” “thank you,” and offering help when someone needs it are all ways of practicing good manners. When we treat others with respect and kindness, it helps us build positive relationships. - It Brings Joy to Both the Host and the Guest:
When we make others feel comfortable and happy, it also makes us feel good. Helping others and making them smile brings joy to our hearts. It’s a way of sharing happiness and spreading love wherever we go.
Lesson Presentation (Step-by-Step Procedure)
Step 1: Introduction
Begin with a question: “How do you feel when someone shows kindness to you, especially when you least expect it?” Encourage pupils to share their experiences of when they received hospitality or kindness. This will help engage them and relate to the concept of hospitality.
Step 2: Explanation
Explain that showing hospitality is a Christian value that involves treating others with love, care, and respect. Discuss Galatians 6:9-10, highlighting the importance of doing good, especially in situations where it may not be easy. Teach the pupils that by showing hospitality, we are following Jesus’ example of loving our neighbors. Emphasize that hospitality is important because it helps build a loving and caring community.
Step 3: Demonstration
Read Galatians 6:9-10 aloud. Show a visual aid or chart with key points from the scripture. Demonstrate a simple act of hospitality, such as greeting a new pupil or helping someone in need, and explain how these small actions contribute to a loving environment.
Step 4: Guided Practice
Ask pupils to brainstorm ways they can show hospitality at school or home. Examples might include inviting someone to join a game, helping a friend with schoolwork, or sharing food. Write their ideas on the board and discuss how each act is a form of hospitality.
Step 5: Independent Practice
Have pupils create a “Hospitality Action Plan” where they list at least three ways they can show kindness and hospitality over the next week. Encourage them to carry out one of these actions during the week and share the results with the class afterward.
Step 6: Feedback
Walk around the classroom while pupils work on their plans, providing guidance and offering suggestions. Ask questions like, “How does it feel when you show kindness to others?” and “What are some challenges you might face while trying to be hospitable?”
Evaluation
Formative Assessment:
Observe pupils’ participation in the class discussion and activities. Ask them to explain why hospitality is important and how they can show it in their own lives. Evaluate their responses based on understanding and relevance to the lesson.
Summative Assessment:
At the end of the lesson, ask pupils to write a short paragraph on why hospitality is important, based on Galatians 6:9-10, and provide one example of how they can practice it in their community.
Summary/Conclusion
To summarize, hospitality is an important part of living a Christian life. It reflects God’s love and care for others. By being hospitable, we show kindness and make our communities better. Galatians 6:9-10 reminds us that when we show hospitality, we are doing good and will eventually see the rewards of our kindness. Encourage the pupils to practice hospitality daily.
Assignment
Ask pupils to read Galatians 6:9-10 at home and write a short story or reflection about a time when they showed kindness or hospitality. They should also include how they felt and how the other person might have felt.
