Topic: Safety When Using Simple Machines at School
Sub Topic: Understanding and Practicing Safety Measures in the Classroom

Instructional Objectives
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify potential hazards associated with using simple machines in the classroom.
  2. Describe safety measures and precautions for using simple machines in a school setting.
  3. Demonstrate safe usage practices for classroom tools through role-play or practice.

Entry Behaviour
Pupils should have a basic understanding of simple machines and their uses. They should also be familiar with the importance of safety in different settings, including the classroom.

Instructional Materials

  1. Pictures or charts showing potential hazards and safety measures related to simple machines used in the classroom.
  2. Real examples or models of classroom tools (e.g., scissors, stapler, glue) to demonstrate safety practices.
  3. Safety charts or posters with clear rules and precautions for classroom use.

  1. Potential Hazards When Using Simple Machines at School
    • Scissors: Risk of cuts or injuries if not used carefully.
    • Stapler: Risk of pinching fingers or injuries if used improperly.
    • Glue: Risk of mess and accidental spills, potential for skin irritation.
  2. Safety Measures and Precautions
    • Scissors: Use with a proper grip and cut away from your body. Store in a safe place out of reach of young children.
    • Stapler: Use on a flat surface and avoid placing fingers near the stapling area. Ensure it is in good working condition.
    • Glue: Apply glue carefully to avoid spills. Wash hands after use to prevent irritation.
