Uses of Materials in the First Aid Box
- Adhesive Bandages (Plasters):
- Used to cover small cuts or wounds to prevent infection.
- Antiseptic Solution/Wipes:
- Used to clean wounds and kill germs.
- Cotton Wool:
- Used to apply antiseptic to wounds or clean cuts.
- Gauze Pads:
- Used to cover larger wounds to stop bleeding and keep them clean.
- Pain Relievers (e.g., Paracetamol):
- Used to reduce pain or fever.
- Bandages:
- Used to support sprained joints or secure gauze pads on wounds.
- Tweezers:
- Used to remove splinters or small foreign objects from the skin.
- Scissors:
- Used to cut bandages or adhesive tape.
- Gloves:
- Worn to maintain hygiene while handling wounds.
- Safety Pins:
- Used to secure bandages or slings.
Lesson Presentation
Step 1: Introduction
- Begin by asking pupils, “What do you do if you see someone with a cut or injury?”
- Present a real or replica first aid box and ask pupils if they recognize any of the items.
Step 2: Explanation
- Explain the importance of each material in the first aid box.
- Use simple language and examples to describe how each item is used.
Step 3: Demonstration
- Show pupils how to use basic materials, such as:
- Cleaning a wound with antiseptic wipes.
- Covering a wound with a plaster.
- Wrapping a bandage around a sprained joint.
Step 4: Guided Practice
- Divide pupils into groups and give each group a set of first aid items.
- Ask them to identify the items and discuss their uses within their groups.
Step 5: Independent Practice
