Tracing and Writing the Letters ‘a’ to ‘c’ (Pre-Primary 1- Literacy Lesson Note: First Term, Week Six)

Posted on October 21, 2024October 21, 2024 By Damilola

Week Six Lesson Note

Subject: Literacy
Class: Pre-Primary (Age 2)
Topic: Tracing and Writing the Letters ‘a’ to ‘c’

Objective:

  • To help children learn to recognize, trace, and write the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’.
  • To develop fine motor skills through tracing and writing activities.
  • To promote early literacy by familiarizing children with letter shapes.

Materials Needed:

  • Worksheets with large letters ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’ for tracing
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • Blank paper for free writing
  • Large letter cards for visual reference
  • Stickers or stamps for rewards

Introduction:

  1. Letter Introduction:
    • Begin by introducing the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’ using large letter cards. Show each letter and pronounce it clearly. For example, say, “This is ‘a’, this is ‘b’, and this is ‘c’.”
    • Explain that they will learn how to trace and write these letters today.
  2. Demonstration:
    • Demonstrate how to trace the letters. For example, take a crayon and show how to start at the top of the letter ‘a’, move down, and then cross it. Use simple terms to explain each movement.

Activities:

1. Tracing Worksheets

  • Activity: Provide worksheets with dotted outlines of the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’. Encourage children to trace over the dotted lines with crayons or markers.
  • Purpose: This activity helps them practice the shape of the letters while developing fine motor skills.

2. Free Writing Practice

  • Activity: Give children blank sheets of paper and ask them to write the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’ on their own. Encourage them to use their imaginations, maybe drawing something that starts with each letter next to it.

Purpose: This allows children to express creativity while reinforcing their understanding of the letters.
