Posted on November 29, 2024November 29, 2024 By Damilola

Week Eight

Subject: Information Communication Technology
Class: Primary One
Week of the First Term: 8th Week
Topic: Things Computers Cannot Do

Instructional Objectives

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify three tasks that computers cannot perform, such as feeling emotions, making personal decisions, and understanding human experiences.
  2. Share their feelings about why computers are different from humans and express their thoughts on the importance of human skills.
  3. Illustrate a picture showing one thing that a computer cannot do, demonstrating understanding through art.

Entry Behaviour

Pupils should already know basic functions of computers and have experience using them for tasks like playing games or drawing pictures.

Instructional Materials

  1. Pictures or videos showing computers performing tasks (e.g., typing, browsing) alongside images of humans performing emotional or personal tasks (e.g., caring for a pet, hugging a friend).
  2. Flashcards illustrating various tasks that computers can do versus tasks they cannot do.
  3. A drawing board and colored markers for pupils to create their illustrations.

Things Computers Cannot Do

  1. Feeling Emotions:
    • Computers cannot feel emotions like happiness, sadness, or excitement. Humans express feelings in ways that computers cannot replicate.
  2. Making Decisions:
    • While computers can process data and make suggestions based on information, they cannot make decisions without human input or guidelines.
  3. Creative Thinking:
    • Computers follow programmed instructions and cannot think creatively or solve problems in new ways like humans can. They rely on humans to come up with ideas and solutions.
  4. Understanding Human Experiences:
    • Computers cannot truly understand what it feels like to be a friend or to care for someone. They lack the ability to empathize or connect emotionally.
