This study delves into the foreign policy and economic development strategies pursued by President Olusegun Obasanjo during his tenure from 1999 to 2007 in Nigeria. With a focus on restoring Nigeria’s image on the global stage, President Obasanjo implemented reforms aimed at attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and fostering economic growth. The adoption of initiatives such as the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) and liberal economic policies played pivotal roles in this endeavor. Through strategic economic diplomacy, President Obasanjo aimed to enhance Nigeria’s profile of good governance, human rights promotion, poverty eradication, and economic advancement internationally. The study aims to examine the impact of these policies on Nigeria’s economic development, assess their implications on foreign relations, and analyze the role of President Obasanjo in shaping Nigeria’s global image and economic trajectory during this period.
