Subject: Basic Technology
Class: Primary 3 (Age 8)
Week: Seventh Week of the Term
Topic: Technology Used in Education


Instructional Objectives
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Define educational technology.
  2. Identify at least three examples of technology used in education.
  3. Explain how technology helps in learning and teaching.

Entry Behaviour
Pupils should already be familiar with the concept of technology and its different forms (underdeveloped and developed). They should also know examples of developed technology from the previous lessons.


Instructional Materials

  1. Pictures of technology tools used in classrooms (e.g., computers, projectors, tablets).
  2. Flashcards with names of educational technology tools.
  3. A real-life example of educational technology (e.g., showing how a tablet or projector is used).

Technology Used in Education

  1. Meaning of Educational Technology: Educational technology refers to the use of tools, machines, and devices to improve teaching and learning. It includes things like computers, tablets, projectors, and the internet.
  2. Examples of Technology in Education:
    • Computers: Help pupils to learn new information, practice typing, and even do research online.
    • Tablets: Used in schools to access educational apps, play learning games, or read e-books.
    • Projectors: Used by teachers to show lessons on the screen, so everyone can see and follow along.
    • Smartboards: Special boards where teachers can write and display lessons, similar to a whiteboard but interactive.
    • Educational Apps: Apps on smartphones and tablets that help pupils to learn topics like math, reading, and science.
  3. Benefits of Using Technology in Education:
    • Makes learning easier and more interesting.
    • Helps teachers explain lessons better by showing videos and pictures.
    • Allows pupils to practice at their own pace using educational games and apps.
