God’s Reward System for Faithful People
What It Means to Walk and Work with God
- Walking with God
Walking with God refers to living in daily fellowship with Him, where you actively seek His presence, guidance, and direction. It’s about surrendering your will to His and walking in obedience to His commands. In Genesis 5:24, it is said of Enoch, “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” This shows that walking with God involves living a life that pleases Him, walking in faith, and trusting His plan for your life. - Working with God
Working with God involves partnering with Him in the fulfillment of His purposes. It is about aligning your efforts, talents, and resources with God’s mission to bring about His Kingdom on Earth. In 1 Corinthians 3:9, Paul writes, “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” This verse illustrates that believers are co-laborers with God, working alongside Him to spread the gospel, serve others, and build His Church.
Rewards of Walking and Working with God
- God’s Guidance and Direction
One of the greatest rewards of walking with God is the guidance He gives. In Psalm 32:8, God promises, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” When you walk with God, He will lead you, directing your steps and helping you make wise decisions. This guidance provides peace and assurance, knowing that you are walking in His will. - Strength and Empowerment
God gives strength to those who walk and work with Him. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” When you walk with God, He provides the strength to endure challenges, face difficulties, and remain faithful in His service. - Peace and Joy
Walking with God brings peace that the world cannot give. John 14:27 records Jesus saying, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” As you walk with God, you experience His peace that surpasses understanding, no matter the circumstances. Working with God brings joy, knowing that your labor is not in vain. - Fruitfulness in Life
God promises that those who walk in obedience to Him will be fruitful. In John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” When you walk with God and work in His will, your life will bear spiritual fruit, whether through changed lives, acts of kindness, or growing in godly character. - Eternal Reward
The greatest reward of walking and working with God is the promise of eternal life with Him. In Matthew 25:23, when the faithful servant enters into the joy of the Lord, Jesus says, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.” This shows that there is an eternal reward for those who walk faithfully with God and work in His service. - God’s Presence and Fellowship
When you walk with God, you enjoy a deeper fellowship with Him. In James 4:8, we are encouraged to “come near to God and he will come near to you.” Walking with God means that you experience His presence in your life daily. Working with God brings you closer to Him as you serve Him and obey His will. This deep fellowship brings satisfaction and joy that no earthly thing can provide.
Lesson Presentation (Step-by-Step Procedure)
Step 1: Introduction
Ask the pupils, “What do you think it means to walk and work with God?” Allow them to share their ideas. Explain that walking with God means living a life that reflects His teachings, and working with God means actively doing His will.
Step 2: Explanation
Read and explain the stories of Enoch (Genesis 5:21-24) and Hebrews 11:5-6. Emphasize how Enoch’s faithfulness led to him being taken directly to God. Discuss how God rewards faithfulness with blessings and eternal life.
Step 3: Demonstration
Use the chart to show examples of other faithful people in the Bible, such as Abraham and David. Highlight the rewards they received from God for their faithfulness, including God’s promises, protection, and leadership roles.
Step 4: Guided Practice
Have the pupils work in pairs to read and discuss the story of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3) or David (1 Samuel 16:12-13). Ask them to identify the rewards God gave to these faithful people and how these rewards relate to walking and working with God.
Step 5: Independent Practice
Ask each pupil to write a short paragraph about how they can walk and work with God in their daily lives. Encourage them to include specific examples, such as obeying God’s commands, praying, and serving others.
Step 6: Feedback
Review the pupils’ paragraphs and give feedback. Reinforce that God rewards faithfulness both in this life and in the life to come. Encourage the pupils to remain faithful and trust in God’s promises.
