Topic: Public Health Enlightenment
Sub-Topic: Public Health Enlightenment Campaigns on HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse Education


Instructional Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain what public health enlightenment means.
  2. Identify two topics covered in public health campaigns.
  3. Mention one way to prevent HIV/AIDS and drug abuse.

Entry Behaviour:

Pupils should have basic knowledge of health practices and hygiene from previous lessons.


Instructional Materials:

  1. Posters with images showing public health campaigns (e.g. HIV/AIDS prevention, anti-drug abuse)
  2. Flashcards explaining simple health messages
  3. Videos or charts showing health professionals conducting awareness programs

Content:

Definition of Public Health Enlightenment:

  • Public health enlightenment refers to efforts by the government and health workers to inform people about diseases and unhealthy habits that can harm their health.

HIV/AIDS Education:

  • HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, and AIDS is the disease caused by HIV.
  • Public health campaigns teach people how to avoid getting HIV, such as by not sharing needles and practicing safe habits.

Drug Abuse Education:

  • Drug abuse means using drugs in a harmful way or using illegal drugs.
  • Public health enlightenment teaches people about the dangers of drug abuse and how it can hurt their body and mind.

Ways to Prevent HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse:

  • Avoid sharing sharp objects like needles.
  • Say “no” to drugs and stay away from people who use illegal drugs.
