The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has recently made significant announcements regarding the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) results, further addressing withheld results and examination rescheduling. These developments are critical for the over 1.9 million candidates who participated in the examination across Nigeria.
Release of Additional UTME Results
On May 7, 2024, JAMB announced the release of 531 additional UTME results. These results were initially part of the 64,000 results withheld due to investigations into possible examination misconduct . This decision follows the release of results for 1,842,464 candidates last week, with a total of 1,842,897 results now cleared and released. This update brings relief to the candidates whose results were under scrutiny, although a significant number still remain withheld .
Statistics on Withheld Results
JAMB has provided detailed reasons for withholding certain results:
- 78 results are under investigation for alleged examination misconduct.
- 4,594 results are under procedural investigation.
- 2,896 results are under verification investigation.
- 57,056 results are subject to centre-based investigations .
As investigations continue, JAMB has identified 92 cases of examination misconduct, up from the initially discovered 81 cases . These findings highlight the ongoing challenges of ensuring the integrity of the examination process.
Examination Performance and Gender Breakdown
Out of the 1,842,464 results initially released:
- Only 8,401 candidates (0.5%) scored 300 and above.
- 77,070 candidates (4.2%) scored 250 and above.
- 439,974 candidates (24%) scored 200 and above.
- The majority, 1,402,490 candidates (76%), scored below 200 .
Interestingly, for the first time in three years, more females than males registered for the UTME. Specifically, 982,393 males (49.4%) and 1,007,275 females (50.6%) participated in the examination . Additionally, 3,164 persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) registered, marking a 36.2% increase from the previous year .
Rescheduling of Examinations
In response to various issues and requests, JAMB has also announced the rescheduling of exams. Notably, a supplementary UTME has been scheduled for June 22, 2024. This retake is for:
- 24,535 candidates from centers with significant non-compliance with JAMB standards.
- 20,550 candidates whose results remain under investigation.
- 2,702 candidates whose fingerprints could not be verified .
Moreover, 3,921 additional results have been cleared and released, increasing the total released results to 1,883,350 . Candidates affected by rescheduling can check their new examination details starting June 4, 2024 .
Direct Entry (DE) Registration Extension
JAMB has extended the Direct Entry (DE) registration deadline to June 17, 2024, in response to high demand. This extension includes additional registration points in states like Lagos, Oyo, Kwara, and Osun. Furthermore, special provisions have been made for 3,633 candidates from the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) and Kwara State University (KWASU) diploma program, allowing them to register for the UTME by June 10, 2024 .
Addressing Allegations and Integrity Measures
JAMB has firmly denied allegations that candidates who did not sit for the 2024 UTME received scores. The board maintains that its examination process is designed with high integrity and security, challenging anyone with contrary claims to provide concrete evidence. JAMB also advises candidates to protect their personal information to prevent misuse and misinformation .
