Instructional Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Define personal health in simple terms.
  2. Mention at least four reasons why personal health is important.
  3. Identify simple ways to maintain personal health daily.

Entry Behaviour

Pupils have heard about good hygiene practices like bathing and brushing their teeth.


Instructional Materials

  • Charts showing personal hygiene practices
  • Pictures or posters of clean and dirty environments
  • Real-life hygiene items (soap, toothbrush, towel, etc.)

Content

Meaning of Personal Health:
Personal health is the way we care for our body and mind to stay clean, strong, and free from sickness. It includes things like bathing, brushing teeth, washing clothes, and eating good food.

Importance of Personal Health:

  1. It keeps the body clean and fresh.
  2. It helps us avoid diseases and infections.
  3. It makes us feel strong and happy.
  4. It helps us do well in school and play with others.
  5. It helps people around us stay healthy too.

Lesson Preparation (Step-by-Step Procedure)

Step 1: Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Greet the pupils.
  • Ask them simple questions like:
    • “What do you do every morning when you wake up?”
    • “Why do we take our bath or brush our teeth?”

Step 2: Presentation (15 minutes)

  • Use charts and real items to explain personal health.
  • Show a picture of a clean child and a dirty child. Ask pupils to say which is better and why.
  • Define personal health and explain its importance.

Step 3: Discussion (10 minutes)

  • Ask pupils how they take care of themselves at home.
  • Discuss the benefits of staying clean and healthy.
  • Let pupils talk about how they feel when they are clean or sick.

Step 4: Demonstration (5 minutes)

  • Show pupils how to use a toothbrush and soap properly.
  • Let them name other things used to stay healthy.

Step 5: Questions and Answers (5 minutes)

  • Ask the class questions like:
    • “Why is personal health important?”
    • “Name one thing you do to stay healthy every day.”
