Mulching

Mulching is the practice of covering the soil around plants with a layer of material to conserve moisture, improve soil fertility, and suppress weeds.

Importance of Mulching:

  1. Moisture Retention: Mulch helps to retain moisture in the soil, reducing the need for frequent watering.
  2. Weed Control: A layer of mulch can block sunlight, which helps to prevent weed growth.
  3. Soil Temperature Regulation: Mulch keeps the soil cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather, creating a more stable environment for plant roots.
  4. Nutrient Addition: Organic mulches, such as grass clippings or straw, decompose over time and add nutrients to the soil.
