II. Job Description (Summary)
- Job Type: Full-Time
- Summary: The COO will lead the internal activities of The Henry Jackson Society (HJS), ensuring smooth daily operations, financial management, strategic development, and fostering a growth-oriented culture. This role requires strategic vision, organization leadership, and hands-on problem-solving skills.
III. Job Responsibilities
- Planning and Performance:
- Lead business, logistical, and operational planning.
- Design, develop, and implement the business and strategic plan for HJS.
- Provide reporting and strategic advice to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
- Oversee project management from conception through to post-project evaluations.
- Plan cost-effective business strategies for income growth.
- Finance:
- Budgeting and forecasting, maintaining cash flow and profit & loss projections.
- Report quarterly to the Finance Sub-Committee and the Board of Trustees.
- Lead the annual audit.
- Governance and Operations:
- Oversee governance meetings and organizational policy and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and data processing laws.
- Oversee IT systems and CRM operations.
- Human Resources:
- Lead on staff happiness and positive organizational culture.
- Manage HR bureaucracy, recruitment, training, and volunteer program.
- Line-manage senior management and other staff.
- Ensure effective communication and motivation of staff.
IV. Job Requirements
- Qualifications:
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
- University Degree.
- PRINCE2 Practitioner (Desirable).
- Change Management Practitioner (Desirable).
- Experience and Knowledge:
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a working environment post-university.
- Experience in developing and managing internal communications and project management.
- Experience in financial management related to operations.
- Significant leadership experience in a senior operational director or manager role.
- Understanding of basic HR regulations and legal processes.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, and Xero.
- Excellent numerical, time management, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to handle high-pressure environments and troubleshoot effectively.
