Lesson Presentation (Step-by-Step Procedure)

Step 1: Introduction

  • Begin with a story about a favorite character from a Nigerian movie, asking pupils if they can name any actors or actresses. This will pique their interest and relate to the lesson topic.

Step 2: Explanation

  • Explain what role play is: acting out a character or a scenario, either from a story or created by the pupils. Discuss its importance in understanding stories and expressing feelings. Provide simple examples of role play, like pretending to be a doctor or a teacher.

Step 3: Demonstration

  • Show pictures of famous Nigerian actors and actresses, discussing their roles in various movies. Use examples that pupils can relate to, emphasizing how these actors portray different characters.

Step 4: Guided Practice

  • Divide pupils into small groups and guide them to choose a simple scenario (e.g., a market scene or a school day) to role play. Walk around to provide support and suggestions, helping them think about how to act out their characters.

Step 5: Independent Practice

  • Have each group present their role play to the class. Encourage creativity and expression. After their performances, allow the class to ask questions about the characters and the scenarios they acted out.

Step 6: Feedback

  • Provide positive feedback on their performances, highlighting creativity and teamwork. Address any areas for improvement and encourage all pupils to appreciate their classmates’ efforts.

Evaluation

  • Formative Assessment: Assess pupils’ understanding throughout the lesson by observing their participation in discussions and role play activities. Ask questions to gauge their understanding of role play and the characters discussed.
  • Summative Assessment: At the end of the lesson, pupils will be asked to name three Nigerian actors or actresses and describe one role they have played in a movie, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson content.

Summary/Conclusion

  • Summarize the key points of the lesson: the meaning of role play, its purpose, and the names of some actors and actresses in Nigerian movies. Encourage pupils to explore storytelling through role play in their daily activities and ask if they have any questions.

Assignment

  • For homework, pupils should choose a character from a Nigerian movie and draw a picture of them. They will write a few sentences about why they like that character and what role they played in the story. They should be ready to share their drawings and descriptions in the next class.
