
Northumbria University is pleased to announce the return of its Instrumental Scholarship for September 2024. These scholarships are designed to complement the BA (Hons) Music course and support talented musicians in developing their performance skills.
Scholarship Benefits
- £700 Cash Payment: Successful recipients will receive a £700 cash payment, distributed as follows:
- 25% in November 2024
- 25% in February 2025
- 50% in May 2025
- Development Opportunities: Recipients will have the opportunity to work closely with the university’s music teaching staff and enhance their performance skills.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Instrumental Scholarship, applicants must:
- Residency: Be a UK/Home student, including those from Jersey, Guernsey, The Channel Islands, Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
- Course Application: Have applied for a Full-Time Undergraduate course (including Foundation Year) starting in September 2024.
- Firm Choice: Choose Northumbria as their firm choice by 6 June 2024.
- Student Finance Registration: Register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI), or apply for maintenance funding with the Students Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS). Scottish students not applying for SAAS maintenance funding must provide bank details to the University for direct payment.
- Instrumental Skill: Play a musical instrument to at least grade 7 standard.
Eligible Courses
- All Full-Time Undergraduate and Foundation Year courses at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus and Coach Lane campus.
- Note: The scholarship is not available during placement years.
Important Information
- Commitment: Successful students must commit up to four hours per week for rehearsals and participate in performances during University term time.
- Progress Monitoring: Attendance and progress will be monitored. Unsatisfactory attendance or progress may result in the scholarship being rescinded.
- Enrollment: Students must enroll by 30 September 2024 to receive the scholarship.
- Withdrawal: Students can withdraw from the scholarship at any time, but unpaid monies will not be disbursed.
- Outstanding Debts: Scholarship payments will be withheld if the student has outstanding debts with the University.
- Annual Payment: Payments are made each year of Undergraduate study, contingent on progression and adherence to scholarship terms.
- University Rights: Northumbria University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship scheme at any point, and the University’s decision is final with no right of appeal.
Application Process
- Online Application: Applicants must apply via an online written application.
- Audition: Shortlisted applicants will attend an audition or submit a short instrumental audition video.
- Personal Statement: In no more than 1500 characters, applicants must describe their musical experience and how they would contribute to instrumental music-making on campus.
- Notification: Successful applicants will be informed following enrollment in October 2024.
