The issue of youth unemployment presents a significant challenge to Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape, with implications for national development. Despite periods of economic growth, the country grapples with high rates of youth unemployment, contrasting with more economically advanced nations. Various factors contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth volatility, including inflation, fiscal deficits, political instability, and corruption. To address youth unemployment, numerous national and regional initiatives have been implemented, albeit with limitations. This study examines the historical evolution and challenges of youth empowerment programs in Taraba State, focusing on four selected local government areas. Employing a descriptive research design, data was collected through interviews and questionnaires from a sample of youths. Findings aim to shed light on the efficacy of existing empowerment programs and inform policy interventions to enhance youth opportunities and contribute to sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
