Topic: Home Furnishing

Sub-Topic: Types and Uses of Furniture in the Home

Instructional Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. List different types of furniture found in the home.
  2. State the use of each type of furniture.
  3. Explain why furniture is important for comfort and organization in the home.

Entry Behaviour:

Pupils should already be aware of the rooms in the home and the basic items found in each room.

Instructional Materials:

  1. Flashcards of different types of furniture (e.g., bed, chair, table).
  2. A picture chart showing furniture arranged in a room.
  3. Toy models of furniture (optional).

Content:

  • Types of Furniture in the Home:
    • Bed: For sleeping.
    • Table: For eating or studying.
    • Chair: For sitting.
    • Wardrobe: For storing clothes.
  • Uses of Furniture:
    • To provide comfort (e.g., chairs, beds).
    • To organize items (e.g., wardrobes, cupboards).
    • To support daily activities (e.g., tables for eating, desks for studying).

Lesson Presentation:

Step 1: Introduction

  • Start by asking, “Who can tell me what they sleep on at home? What do you sit on when you eat?”

Step 2: Explanation

  • Explain the different types of furniture found in the home and their uses.

Step 3: Demonstration

  • Use flashcards to show pictures of furniture and discuss how each is used in the home. If available, use toy models for further demonstration.

Step 4: Guided Practice

  • Ask pupils to mention the furniture in their own homes and state their uses.

Step 5: Independent Practice

  • Pupils will match flashcards of furniture to the rooms where they are typically found.

Step 6: Feedback

  • Review their answers and provide feedback on their understanding of the types and uses of furniture.
