Topic: Healthy Habits
Subtopic: Handwashing Before Meals and After Using the Toilet


Instructional Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify basic hygiene tools such as a toothbrush, soap, and comb.
  2. Understand the purpose of each tool in keeping the body clean.
  3. Participate in a simple activity using these hygiene tools.

Entry Behaviour

Pupils have learned about the care of different body parts, including hands, feet, teeth, ears, eyes, and hair.

Instructional Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Understand the importance of washing hands before meals and after using the toilet.
  2. Identify the steps involved in proper handwashing.
  3. Participate in an engaging activity related to hand hygiene.

Pupils should have some awareness of washing hands and may have participated in handwashing at home.

Instructional Materials

  • Pictures showing handwashing steps.
  • A large container or toy sink for demonstration.
  • Soap and a towel (real or pretend).
  • A simple handwashing song (e.g., to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”).
  • A puppet or soft toy for role play.

Content

Importance of Handwashing:

  • Before Meals: Keeps our food clean and helps us stay healthy.
  • After Using the Toilet: Removes germs that can make us sick.
