At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  3. Demonstrate an understanding how good governance can be practiced at school.

Meaning of Good Governance: Good governance refers to the process by which organizations, societies, or governments are managed in a way that is fair, transparent, and accountable. It involves making decisions and implementing them in a manner that serves the best interests of the people, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and responsibly.

Features of Good Governance:

  1. Transparency:
    • Good governance involves being open and clear about decisions and actions. This means that the processes and decisions are made available for public scrutiny, ensuring that people can see and understand how decisions are made and how resources are allocated.
  2. Accountability:
    • In good governance, leaders and decision-makers are held responsible for their actions. They must explain their decisions and be answerable to the people they serve, ensuring that they act in the public’s best interest.
  3. Participation:
    • Good governance encourages the involvement of all stakeholders in decision-making processes. This includes giving everyone an opportunity to voice their opinions, contribute ideas, and participate in the governance process.
  4. Fairness and Equity:
    • Good governance ensures that all individuals are treated equally and fairly. It involves creating an environment where everyone has access to opportunities and resources, regardless of their background, and where the needs of the most vulnerable are addressed.
  5. Rule of Law:
    • Good governance is based on the rule of law, where laws are applied consistently and fairly to everyone. It ensures that all actions are governed by law, protecting the rights of individuals and maintaining order in society.
  6. Responsiveness:
    • Good governance is responsive to the needs of the people. This means that decisions are made in a timely manner and that the government or organization is sensitive to the needs and concerns of its citizens or members, making adjustments when necessary.

    • Good governance ensures that resources are used in the best possible way to achieve desired outcomes. It focuses on achieving the best results with the available resources, ensuring that services are delivered effectively and efficiently.
