The study investigates the effects of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), particularly the use of WhatsApp, on the grammatical expressions of young people. With the rapid integration of ICT into daily life, understanding its impact on language skills has become essential. This research focuses on the implications of text messaging and chat applications on vocabulary, spelling, and grammar among university students. Despite ICT’s recognized role in educational development, concerns persist regarding its influence on language use, especially among teenagers who often employ non-standard abbreviations and shorthand in digital communication. The study aims to assess both the positive and negative impacts of ICT on students’ grammatical proficiency, using Tai Solarin University of Education and Olabisi Onabanjo University as case studies. Through examining the significance of social media in students’ lives and the specific effects of WhatsApp on their language skills, the research contributes to understanding the broader implications of ICT on education and offers insights into potential strategies for mitigating negative effects on language learning.
