
The rise of social media has significantly reshaped celebrity culture, providing celebrities with unprecedented opportunities for fan engagement and public image management. However, this exposure has also made them vulnerable to cyberbullying, a pervasive issue characterized by the use of electronic communication to harass and intimidate individuals. This study investigates the impact of cyberbullying on the self-esteem of Nigerian celebrities, focusing on how different forms of online harassment affect their emotional well-being. Utilizing a quantitative research approach, the study examines the extent and types of cyberbullying experienced by celebrities on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and explores the resultant effects on their self-esteem. Additionally, it identifies the coping strategies employed by celebrities to manage the psychological impact of cyberbullying. Findings indicate that cyberbullying significantly undermines the self-esteem of celebrities, with varying impacts based on the nature of the harassment. The study also reveals that effective coping strategies can mitigate some of the adverse effects on self-esteem. This research fills a critical gap in understanding the specific experiences of Nigerian celebrities and offers insights that could inform policies and support systems aimed at combating cyberbullying and enhancing mental well-being in the digital age.
