Meaning of Drug Abuse
Drug abuse means using drugs in a way that is not good for your body and health. It happens when people take medicine or drugs that are not for them or use them in the wrong way. Sometimes, people use drugs to feel good, but using them too much or the wrong way can hurt their body and mind
Lesson Presentation (Step-by-Step Procedure)
Step 1: Introduction
Begin with a story or scenario where a character takes medicine without a doctor’s permission and experiences bad effects. Ask pupils if they know what it means to use medicine or drugs the wrong way.
Step 2: Explanation
Explain the concept of drug abuse in simple terms, emphasizing that it means using medicine or other substances in ways that harm the body. Provide examples, such as taking drugs not prescribed by a doctor.
Step 3: Demonstration
Show pictures of drugs commonly known, discussing which should only be taken when prescribed by a doctor. Use visual aids to demonstrate the effects of drug abuse.
Step 4: Guided Practice
Organize a discussion where pupils talk about times when they’ve taken medicine (with supervision) and why it’s important to follow a doctor’s guidance.
Step 5: Independent Practice
Ask pupils to draw a “Say No to Drugs” poster, reinforcing the lesson and promoting awareness.
Step 6: Feedback
Review the posters, asking pupils to explain their drawings. Address any misunderstandings about what drug abuse is and reinforce the importance of taking medicine only with an adult’s guidance.
Evaluation
- Formative Assessment: Observe pupils’ responses during the guided practice discussion to assess their understanding of drug abuse.
- Summative Assessment: At the end of the lesson, ask pupils to explain, in their own words, what drug abuse is and why it is harmful.
Summary/Conclusion
Summarize that drug abuse is the harmful use of drugs without a doctor’s advice. Emphasize that drugs can be helpful when used correctly but harmful when misused.
Assignment
Ask pupils to talk to an adult about the importance of following a doctor’s instructions when using any medicine, then write a short sentence about what they learned from the discussion.
