Cleaning the School Toilet

Cleaning the school toilet is important for keeping our school safe and healthy. Here’s how we can do it together:

  1. Gather Cleaning Supplies: Before we start, we need cleaning tools like a toilet brush, disinfectant cleaner, gloves, and paper towels.
  2. Put on Gloves: Always wear gloves to protect your hands from germs while cleaning.
  3. Brush the Toilet Bowl: Use the toilet brush to scrub the inside of the toilet bowl. Make sure to get under the rim and in all corners. This helps remove any stains and germs.
  4. Use Disinfectant: Spray disinfectant cleaner around the toilet seat, handle, and outside of the toilet. This helps kill germs and makes everything clean.
  5. Wipe Down Surfaces: Use paper towels to wipe the toilet seat and any other surfaces. Be sure to throw the used paper towels in the trash.
  6. Flush the Toilet: After cleaning, flush the toilet to wash away any leftover cleaning solution.
  7. Wash Hands: Finally, remove your gloves and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to stay healthy.

Lesson Presentation (Step-by-Step Procedure)

Step 1: Introduction
Engage pupils by asking them, “Why do you think we need to clean the school toilet?” Discuss their responses and explain the importance of toilet cleanliness for health and hygiene.

Step 2: Explanation
Introduce the materials needed for cleaning. Explain each item’s purpose, such as the bucket for carrying water, soap for cleaning, brushes for scrubbing, and disinfectant for killing germs.

Step 3: Demonstration

  1. Gather the cleaning materials and show them to the pupils.
  2. Demonstrate each step of the cleaning process:
    • Put on gloves to protect hands.
    • Fill a bucket with water and add detergent.
    • Use the brush to scrub the toilet bowl thoroughly.
    • Rinse with clean water and apply disinfectant.
    • Wipe down surfaces with a clean cloth.
    • Dispose of any waste properly.

Step 4: Guided Practice
Divide pupils into small groups. Each group will practice the cleaning steps under teacher supervision. Provide guidance and support as they work together to clean a designated area.

Step 5: Independent Practice
Allow each group to demonstrate what they learned by cleaning their assigned area of the school toilet while the teacher observes and provides feedback.

Step 6: Feedback
After the cleaning activity, gather the pupils to discuss what they did. Ask questions like, “What did you find easy or difficult?” Provide positive reinforcement and address any misconceptions.

Evaluation

Formative Assessment:
Observe pupils as they clean, noting their understanding of the steps and proper use of materials.

Summative Assessment:
At the end of the lesson, have pupils describe the steps they took in cleaning the toilet and explain why it is important to keep toilets clean.

Summary/Conclusion

Summarize the key points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in the school toilet and the steps involved in the cleaning process. Reinforce the idea that everyone plays a role in maintaining a clean environment.

Assignment

Ask pupils to draw a picture showing one of the steps they learned in cleaning the toilet and write a short sentence about why it’s important to keep toilets clean.
