Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a form of martial arts that originated in Korea. It focuses on high, fast kicks and dynamic footwork. It is not only a sport but also a means of self-defense and a way to develop physical and mental discipline.
Basic Skills in Taekwondo
- Stances:
- Horse Stance (Juchum Seogi): A wide stance that helps with stability and strength.
- Front Stance (Ap Seogi): A forward stance used for balance and power in strikes.
- Kicks:
- Front Kick (Ap Chagi): A straight kick that is executed by lifting the knee and extending the leg forward.
- Roundhouse Kick (Dollyo Chagi): A kick that involves turning the hips and striking with the instep of the foot.
- Side Kick (Yeop Chagi): A powerful kick delivered by lifting the knee and extending the leg to the side.
- Blocks:
- Low Block (Arae Makki): Used to block low attacks, this technique helps protect the legs.
- High Block (Olgul Makki): A defensive move to protect against strikes aimed at the head.
- Punches:
- Straight Punch (Jireugi): A straightforward punch delivered from a guard position, aimed at the opponent’s face or body.
