Topic: Care of the Hair
Sub-topic: Explain the two types of hair – soft and coarse; Function of hair; Hair care materials and tools.

Instructional Objectives

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the two types of hair: soft and coarse.
  2. Explain the functions of hair in our body.
  3. List and demonstrate the use of common hair care materials and tools.

Entry Behaviour

Pupils should already know what hair is and may have seen different types of hair in their families or among their friends.

  2. Visual Aids: Pictures of different hair types (soft and coarse)
  3. Tools: Hairbrushes, combs, shampoo, and conditioner for demonstration

Care of the Hair

Types of Hair

  • Soft Hair: This type is usually smooth, shiny, and easy to manage. It can be straight or wavy.
  • Coarse Hair: Coarse hair is thicker, often more textured, and can be curly. It may require different care compared to soft hair.

Functions of Hair

  • Provides protection for the scalp from the sun and cold.
  • Acts as a sensory organ, helping us feel touch and temperature.
  • Enhances our appearance and self-esteem.

Hair Care Materials and Tools

  • Materials: Shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, hair gel.
  • Tools: Hairbrushes, combs, hair clips, and scissors.
