Content

Topic: Call to Obedience

A call to obedience means being asked or instructed to follow rules, commands, or instructions. In Christianity, it is a call from God for people to listen to Him and do what He says. Obedience to God shows that we trust Him and want to do what is right. It also helps us live a good life and make the world better.

Sub-Topic: Meaning of Obedience; Abraham Obeys God’s Call

What is Obedience?

Obedience means listening to and doing what you are told by someone in charge, like your parents, teachers, or God. In the Christian faith, obedience is about following God’s rules and trusting Him to guide us in the right way.

Importance of Obedience

  1. It Shows Faith and Trust:
Obeying God means we trust that He knows what is best for us. Just like Abraham trusted God and followed His instructions, Christians show their faith by doing what God asks, even when it’s not easy.
  2. We Follow Jesus’ Example:
Jesus obeyed God in everything He did, even when it was hard. He loved us so much that He died for us because He followed God’s plan. Christians try to follow Jesus’ example by obeying God’s teachings in the Bible.
  3. It Brings Blessings:
When we obey God, we receive blessings in our lives. Just like God blessed Abraham for listening to Him, God blesses us when we follow His commands and live in the way He wants us to.
  4. It Helps Us Grow Closer to God:
Obeying God helps us build a stronger relationship with Him. When we follow His rules, we learn to trust Him more and feel His love and guidance in our lives.

The Story of Abraham’s Call and His Response to God’s Command

Abraham, who is known as the father of faith, was living in a place called Haran when God called him. One day, God spoke to Abraham and told him to leave his country, his family, and everything he knew to go to a new land that God would show him. God didn’t tell Abraham exactly where the land was, but He promised to bless him and make him the father of a great nation.

Even though Abraham didn’t know where he was going, he trusted God. Abraham obeyed God’s command without questioning it. He gathered his family and all his belongings and started the journey to the unknown land, just as God had instructed.

As a reward for his obedience and faith, God blessed Abraham in many ways. He promised to give Abraham a great number of descendants, even though Abraham and his wife Sarah were old and didn’t have any children at the time. Eventually, God fulfilled His promise by giving them a son, Isaac, and Abraham’s family grew into the nation of Israel.

Abraham’s story teaches us that obedience to God requires faith and trust, even when we don’t fully understand God’s plan. Because Abraham listened and obeyed, God kept His promises and blessed him greatly.
