This study examines the implications of social media usage on examination malpractice among students in Nigeria, with a focus on factors such as social media tools, study time, reasons for malpractice, and strategies employed. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data was collected from 200 students randomly selected from four faculties at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) using a self-developed questionnaire. The findings reveal significant relationships between social media usage and students’ study time, as well as selected examination malpractice strategies. While some scholars argue that social media usage negatively affects academic performance, others suggest its potential benefits. This research contributes to understanding the complex dynamics between social media and academic integrity, providing insights for policymakers, educational managers, and parents on mitigating examination malpractice facilitated by social media platforms.
